The client had developed a seed that could produce a crop with a specialized trait of value to food processors, and wanted to distribute the seeds to producers in proximity to end users and understand the margins along the value chain in order to best to capture the true value of the trait.

The Solution

HighQuest provided an analysis of the food processing industry in the U.S. that included geographic concentrations of demand for the relevant crop – especially as modified by the value-added trait – as an input to food processing. The analysis included recommendations regarding production locations, providing the client time to produce the appropriate germplasm. HighQuest also produced a margin analysis of the separate segments of the value chain that enabled the client to establish realistic price targets.

The Results

The client focused seed ramp up and roll out by maturity zone and in quantities anticipated for market need. In addition, a broader perspective was gained on understanding limiting factors relative to value creation and shaping future business development opportunities.
